Delta, however, has something else in mind. The airline just announced on Twitter that it’s launched an eBay auction to distribute what’s left of the DC-9 to fans — in the form of a $250 metal gift card with a unique number, between 1 and 2,500. That means there are 2,500 of these gift cards floating around, each loaded with $50 in value that you can use toward the purchase of Delta flights.Constructing the Delta gift cards.Presumably all 2,500 cards won’t be sold through eBay, but as of this writing only six have been purchased so far, so you should still have time to scoop one up. Since the cards were cut from the DC-9’s fuselage and tail, each may have unique elements, including signs of wear and tear. The color will also vary a bit — most will likely be white, but there should be a few blue and red cards in the mix, as well. If there’s a particular color you want, it probably wouldn’t hurt to send Delta an eBay message after you win the auction. Note that these gift cards can only be shipped within the US, and you’re limited to purchasing three per eBay account.[card card-name=‘Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express’ card-id=‘22034414’ type=‘javascript’ bullet-id=‘1’]
