Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here – Chase Sapphire Preferred CardOne of the benefits of the Chase Sapphire Preferred card - apart from the 2X spending bonus on travel and dining, and no foreign transaction fees - is the 7% annual dividend you get on all the points you earned during the previous calendar year. You earn 7% based on all the points you earn in the calendar year excluding a sign-up bonus and any points transferred between Ultimate Rewards accounts - so if you have the Ink Plus and/or Ink Bold, there’s no point putting all your points into your Sapphire Preferred UR account and hoping that you’ll get the bonus on all of it. To give you an example of the bonus, let’s say you earned 50,000 points on your Sapphire Preferred all year - you’d get a 7% dividend of 3,500 points in the new year.So all those double points on dining and travel, any bonus points you earn by maximizing the Ultimate Rewards shopping portal where merchants regularly offer multiple bonus points per dollar - all of those count. That means, instead of just 2X point per $1 on travel and dining, you’re really earning 2.14X points per $1.The one thing that is a bit of a nuisance is that it takes until your second statement in a new calendar year for those points to post and it can leave folks wondering just what their points balance will be - especially if they are going to need their points as soon as they post for a particular award. However, you can actually ask Chase what your dividend will be so you can plan in advance. While the points themselves won’t post before your February statement, at least you’ll have a figure to go off of.To find out how many points you have coming your way, log into your Sapphire Preferred account on Chase.com. Then in the upper right side of the page, you’ll see a link to “Secure Message Center.“Click on it and then you’ll have the option to send a secure message and when you select that, a new window pops up and you can choose the subject line, enter your text and send it on its way.My own message was quite simple and read as follows:“Can you tell me how many points were earned during 2013 for my Sapphire Preferred 7 percent dividend and when they will be awarded? Thanks!“I had a response within an hour telling me that I would see the dividend post on my February statement and giving me the exact amount. It was that quick.Sign up for our daily newsletterEmail addressSign upI would like to subscribe to The Points Guy newsletters and special email promotions. Instead, once my billing period ends, I’m going to log into ultimaterewards.com -> Rewards Activity -> Statement Summaries and it should show as an itemized lined on my February statement so I can verify the amount immediately.I actually have a lot of bonus points coming my way since the Sapphire Preferred is one of the three credit cards I put the bulk of my spending on, and I’m the master of paying for big dining bills and trips and then getting friends and family to reimburse me so my annual dividend includes tons of bonus points. However, every point counts, and the 7% dividend is still one of the reasons why the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is one of my go-to cards and will be for years to come.Have any of you already seen your 7% annual dividend post? For more information, check out these posts:How Soon Will I See My Sapphire Preferred 7% Points Dividend? The Top 10 Credit Cards in My Wallet and What I Use Each ForDetails on the Sapphire Preferred 2X on TravelThe Sapphire Preferred 7% Annual DividendRanking the Chase Ultimate Rewards Transfer PartnersTop 10 Ways To Maximize Each Ultimate Rewards Transfer PartnerWhy I Love Chase Ultimate RewardsRanking the Top Chase Travel Credit Card Offers
