See privacy policy.The Atlantic hurricane season just kicked off on June 1 — not that Subtropical Storm Alberto minded that start date. Unsurprisingly, this hurricane season in general is expected to be busy, and now there’s a major hurricane churning in the Pacific: The forecast is calling for Hurricane Bud to strike Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on Thursday evening.Image courtesy of the National Hurricane Center.The good news is that Hurricane Bud isn’t expected to hit as a major hurricane — or even a hurricane at all. As of the 5pm Eastern National Hurricane Center advisory, the hurricane has weakened to a maximum wind speed of 115mph after topping out at 130mph Tuesday morning. While it’s still currently a Category 3 on the Saffir–Simpson scale, it’s forecasted to weaken all the way to a tropical storm before striking Cabo.However, airlines aren’t taking any risks. Most US-based airlines that operate flights to/from Cabo have already issued free flight change fee waivers allowing potentially-affected passengers the ability to rebook their flights to avoid the storm.As of 5:15pm Eastern Tuesday, here are the travel waivers covering this storm:American AirlinesTravel dates: June 14-15Airport covered: Los Cabos / San Jose del Cabo, Mexico (SJD)Must have purchased your ticket by June 12Rebook travel anytime between June 12-19You can’t change your origin or destination city. Must rebook in same cabin or pay the difference.Avoid the phone queue. Changes available on both AA’s website and in the AA app.DeltaTravel dates: June 14-15Airports covered: Los Cabos, MX (SJD)Ticket must be reissued on or before: June 19Rebooked travel must begin no later than: June 19When rescheduled travel occurs beyond June 19, the change fee will be waived. However, a difference in fare may apply. Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity, one year from date of original issue.If travel is not able to be rescheduled within these guidelines, customers may cancel their reservation and apply any unused value of the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket for a period of one year from the original ticket issuance. Applicable change fee and fare difference will apply for new travel dates.SouthwestTravel dates: June 14-16Airport covered: Cabo San Lucas/Los Cabos (SJD)Customers who are holding reservations on Thursday, June 14, thru Saturday, June 16, and want to alter their travel plans may rebook in the original class of service or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with [Southwest’s] accommodation procedures) without paying any additional charge.SpiritTravel dates: June 14-15Airport covered: Los Cabos, MX (SJD)Modification Charge/Fare Difference waived through: June 23After this date, the modification charge is waived, but a fare difference may apply.Customers can make changes to their reservations affected by this event by going to Spirit’s Manage Travel page, or by calling the Spirit Reservations Center at 801-401-2222 to make their flight changes.UnitedTravel dates: June 14-15Airport covered: Cabo San Lucas, MX (SJD)The change fee and any difference in fare will be waived for new United flights departing on or before June 19, as long as travel is rescheduled in the originally ticketed cabin (any fare class) and between the same cities as originally ticketed.​​​No waivers (yet) from: Alaska, Frontier
