And today, JetBlue announced that it’s introducing a special RetroJet livery called “What’s Old Is Blue Again.” The aircraft is designed to look like it’s from the mid-1960s, an iconic age of air travel, featuring the inspiration of popular logos and notable companies from the era. You can watch the painting of the livery in JetBlue’s time lapse video below.Because the New York-based carrier didn’t launch until 2000, its designers engineered what the logo and its livery might have looked like in the mid-60s. As you can see in the video, the livery features an orange and blue “speed stripe” down the length of the aircraft, in addition to a typeface widely used during the period. In addition, the font on the tail of the aircraft is a lively jazz-inspired typeface that JetBlue expects would have stood out among others at that time. Rest assured, though — the interior of the aircraft will match that of other A320s in JetBlue’s fleet.The RetroJet will launch on today’s seasonal nonstop flight between New York (JFK) and Palm Springs (PSP). To celebrate, there will be a gate-side fashion show at JFK’s Terminal 5, and crew members will wear specially designed retro uniforms. In addition, passengers on the first flights on the RetroJet aircraft will get a 1960s-inspired amenity kit with playing cards, a luggage tag, vintage-style post cards and a commemorative pin matching the ones worn by the crew.If you want to join the special flight, you’re in luck! There’s still availability on JetBlue 149 to Palm Springs, departing from JFK at 5pm today, with one-way fares available for $249.
