The carrier is planning to shrink its seat pitch from 31 inches to 29 inches on some of its Boeing 737 MAX, which it’s set to take delivery of later this year....

The crew of United Flight 135 was readying itself for what it thought would be a typical descent into Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on Sunday. But as the aircraft made its way closer to the runway, an air traffic control operator warned the crew that a drone was flying dangerously close to the Boeing 767-400.“See about a quarter mile to the left,” the air traffic control worker told the United crew....

While Britishairways.com can be a good tool for booking award tickets, it also has a lot of bugs and makes searching for non-BA flights a pain. If you are flying anywhere that could possibly route through London, the system will automatically just show you BA flights that do so rather than pulling in partner awards…and as I talk about a lot, those itineraries through London can often incur some huge taxes and fuel surcharges, making it uneconomical to book these awards....

Since taking the helm at Air France-KLM, the group’s new Canadian boss said on Monday that he plans on investing half of his salary back into the company. Benjamin Smith, who came to Air France-KLM from his COO role at Air Canada, said he’d invest part of his salary as a gauge of “confidence” in returning the group to success.Smith has a base salary of 900,000 euros ($1 million), but he can earn as much as 4....

There’s not a whole lot to get excited about when you fly domestically these days — cramped seats, (maybe) a minuscule bag of pretzels and a plastic cup of Coca-Cola are the “highlights” of your typical domestic jump. Typically, one of the lamest parts of the flight is the safety demonstration — frequent flyer’s eyes glaze over and they tune out the flight attendant droning on about how to buckle a seatbelt....

Update 08/04/2017: The Air Force has confirmed that it will indeed convert the two 747-8 aircraft into the next Air Force One, and will disclose the purchase price at a later date.Air Force One is the pinnacle of American prestige, a universally recognizable symbol of the power of the United States. So it comes as a bit of a surprise that the next incarnation of the iconic airplane will not only be an aircraft bought secondhand by the Air Force, but one that was originally produced for an adversary of the US — none other than Russia....

TPG reader Mike asks a great question about the costs of redepositing unused frequent flyer miles:“A few months ago my wife and I each redeemed 50,000 AAdvantage miles to book flights in June. Since then, for medical reasons, we’ve had to cancel our travel plans. American Airlines now gives us two choices: (1) we could use the tickets (assuming reward seats are available) to rebook the same itinerary, as long as we complete travel within 365 days of the date on which we originally made our reservations; or (2) we could each redeposit these miles into our respective AAdvantage accounts at a cost of $150....

The delivery of a new, gleaming airplane to a customer is a daily occurrence — more than daily, in fact. Airbus delivered 688 aircraft last year and Boeing delivered 748, two per day on average, and that’s not counting the other, smaller planemakers. Long gone are the days when jets were unusual machines few people had been on. So it was a big surprise when I went on the delivery flight of the first Airbus A350 for Air Mauritius, and discovered that not only it wasn’t a run of the mill event — it was the biggest story in the nation, with the Prime Minister himself turning up for the plane’s arrival and the media out in force....

Day 16. Today is Baby S’s 16th day living on this planet (outside of my stomach anyway), and we are doing our best to adjust to life as a family of four and finding our “new normal”. In some ways it has thus far been a little easier than expected, in other ways it is about what I expected, and then, of course, there have been a few “surprises” along the way that have been more challenging....
