A massive landslide buried a section California’s Pacific Coast Highway under millions of tons of debris last Saturday, shutting down a quarter mile of the iconic route. The damage to the highway itself is not yet known; California Department of Transportation officials say that the area — buried in nearly 40 feet of rubble in some places — is still too dangerous to access.Without full access to the road, also known as Highway 1, Big Sur’s outdoor tourism and hiking industry may struggle....

The rapidly growing low-cost carrier Norwegian Air announced on Tuesday that it’s being forced to delay the launch of its operations between Canada and Europe because of delivery delays with Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.Norwegian had originally planned to launch service between the two regions from July 23, 2018, after getting the authorization to begin ticket sales last month. However, given the delays in 737 MAX aircraft, services are now not set to begin until spring 2019....

Great news for travelers looking for more low-cost options between the US and Europe: Nordic airline Primera Air just announced three new European routes to the US starting in April 2018. Alaska Airlines announced Tuesday that it will be ending its flights from Dallas-Love Field (DAL) to both New York LaGuardia (LGA) and Washington, DC’s Reagan Airport (DCA). The flights will end this fall, Alaska CEO Brad Tilden said in the airline’s first quarter earnings call, saying the routes were “not strategic” for the company at this time.The Seattle-based carrier said it would lease the open slots at both airports to Southwest Airlines....

Listeria traces have forced Americans Airlines to stop using the Gate Gourmet catering facility at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Several health agencies reportedly tested the facility and found traces of listeria, however American said that it hasn’t found any traces on its food and no illnesses have been reported. As a precaution, the airline has halted Gate Gourmet catering operations out of LAX beginning November 1.An American spokeswoman said that starting overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, the carrier began notifying passengers whose catering was affected by the temporary cease of Gate Gourmet operations....
