The smash success of New York’s High Line, which now claims more than 8 million visitors annually, is spurring other cities to reinvent derelict public space — and maybe attract a lot of new visitors in the process. Some projects, like Atlanta’s Beltline network of repurposed old railway corridors, will take decades; others like the Frank Gehry-designed River LA in Los Angeles don’t even have opening dates.But when the chance arose to create an urban “backyard” from dead space under a much-hated downtown freeway, movers and shakers in Toronto didn’t want to wait....

After the devastating earthquake in Haiti back in 2010, chef José Andrés founded World Central Kitchen with the belief that food can be an agent of change. Together with a group of chefs working together to personally eliminate hunger and poverty, Andrés’ organization has expanded globally and when Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in September, the Spanish chef once again sprung to action, setting up satellite kitchens across Puerto Rico, with the largest operation headquartered in San Juan’s Coliseo....

An Air China flight was diverted after a passenger held a flight attendant in a threatening position with a fountain pen, China’s civil aviation authority said.Air China Flight 1350 from Changsha (CSX) to Beijing (PEK) diverted to Zhengzhou (CGO) on Sunday after a male passenger threatened a flight attendant. In a statement on its website, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAA) said that the man used a fountain pen to hold the flight attendant “under duress....

American Airlines and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel have reached an agreement to move forward with the $8.5 billion deal to overhaul O’Hare International Airport (ORD).The city of Chicago agreed to give American three new gates as part of the deal, The Chicago Tribune reports. The concession comes after a feud between American and United for the number of gates each airline was assigned during the expansion.Shortly after reports of the extensive remodel of ORD were made public, American revealed it would not agree to the plan, saying Chicago-based United was allotted more gates and, therefore, more influence....

Update: Gogo announced that American Airlines has dropped its lawsuit.While American Airlines isn’t buying any goodwill with passengers on the loyalty program front, it is, however, investing in its in-flight product. First, the airline announced the installation of new seats and now, it’s looking to vastly improve its in-flight Wi-Fi.When Gogo first launched its Wi-Fi product, many airlines, including AA, jumped on the chance to install the reasonably inexpensive product that would keep them competitive with other carriers....

The US Supreme Court decided Tuesday to uphold President Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban.The Court’s ruled with a 5-4 vote on the third version of the ban, which was rolled out in its entirety in the fall of 2017 and prohibits entry into the US by most travelers from a total of eight countries, six of which are majority Muslim.The Trump administration had argued to the Court’s justices that the travel ban was not a so-called Muslim ban, and that it is within the rights of the president to set travel restrictions for the nation....

This week, the US Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai shared that he’s against the December 2013 proposal to allow phone calls while in the air....

While United promotes its business class as “Polaris” on many routes, in most cases it’s just the soft product — meaning the food, service, amenities and so on — that folks will receive since the majority of the actual physical seats are still being manufactured and delivered. The only plane you’ll find the real Polaris seats on for the moment are the new United 777-300ER aircraft, which as of this writing are generally being flown between San Francisco (SFO) and Hong Kong (HKG) and starting today between Newark (EWR) and Tel Aviv (TLV)....

Pop singer Richard Marx made headlines last week when he helped to subdue an unruly passenger onboard a Korean Air flight from Hanoi to Seoul. Marx’s wife, Daisy Fuentes — yes, the model and former “America’s Funniest Videos” co-host — posted about the incident on her Instagram page, describing how the passenger had spent four hours attacking both the flight crew and their fellow passengers. She also mentioned that flight attendants were never really able to get full control of him, while Marx later said crew were “ill-trained” and “ill-equipped....
