On June 1, the new Flying Blue program took full effect. Award tickets are now priced not on a traditional region- or distance-based award chart, but rather on a pricing calculator.Like many frequent flyers, I was hesitant about the new program, especially given the rather minimalist pricing calculator which gave prices “starting from” a certain amount with no further details. Routes not flown by Air France or KLM are not available for pricing in the new calculator....

The Transportation Security Administration is attempting to streamline the security screening process at the American Airlines terminal in New York (JFK).Beginning in late July, the TSA is introducing a new computed tomography (CT) scanner at the JFK Terminal 8 security checkpoint. Because the new CT scanner produces imagery in 3-D — as opposed to 2-D, which is what’s offered with traditional x-ray scanners — it’ll allow for quicker, more thorough scans....

A child was injured by an emotional support dog while boarding a Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix on Wednesday February 17. The young girl, who was about 6 or 7 years old, suffered minor injuries, according to Southwest Airlines.Southwest Spokeswoman Melissa Ford said the dog was in the plane’s first row of seats with its owner, who said he warned the girl not to approach his dog. In a statement, Southwest said the dog’s teeth “scraped a child’s forehead....

Earlier today we reported on the new travel rules for immigrants, refugees and American citizens due to the executive order signed Friday by President Donald Trump. As a result, a significant number of foreign nationals and permanent residents are being denied boarding by airlines around the world.Some airlines are now reacting with change fee waivers for those affected by the ban. We have reached out to all US carriers that serve international destinations, and as of this writing, here is a comprehensive list of those who have announced waivers and those who have not, along with selected international airlines with new waiver policies....

American announced this week that the airline would begin flying the first of its fleet of 10 new Boeing 777-300ER’s starting in December, after it takes delivery. Dallas/Forth Worth-Sao Paulo will be the first route the new aircraft fly on December 13, then service will expand in February and April to include routes to and from JFK and London as well. I tried checking for MileSAAver awards and nothing is loaded yet, but I’m going to set up ExpertFlyer alerts....
