Now boarding… nonstop service from Miami to Maine. Via asphalt, that is. Some six decades after construction began on I-95, the most used highway in the United States is finally nearing completion. The completion, of course, is a technicality, but notable nonetheless. If Interstate 95, known throughout the universe for its baffling traffic and teeth-rattling potholes, were a software download, it has been stuck at 99% for eons.The culprit? Local lawmakers and land-owners in Mercer County, New Jersey, who put up a legendary fight to oppose the development....

Nashville is the quintessential southern city — with a cosmopolitan twist. It’s no wonder its nickname is Music City: You can find tunes at every corner. But there’s so much more than music to be found here nowadays, with art galore and a food scene that rivals that of other world-class cities. Nashville’s growing at a crazy rate too, with as many as 100 new people moving there each day, thanks in part to a booming tech scene....

From now until September 30. 2011 Delta is running a 100% promotion on purchased and transferred Skymiles. Is this a good deal? It can be, if you use the miles wisely (and I’ve written a lot on how to maximize Delta awards, like here, here, here and here). The transfer option is more lucrative than buying Miles. Let’s take a look:The Details:Buy Miles: Miles cost 3.5 cents a piece, with a maximum purchase of 60,000 per year (120,000 including bonus) and the price comes to $2,100 for a grand total of 120,000 miles....

See that ancient 2-5-2 economy up above? American still operates that cabin on many of its international routes, but you can do so much better when flying overseas. AA also flies its 777-200 on a few domestic routes (to reposition the plane for long-haul service), and while it’s hardly a terrible option for a three-hour flight from Miami to Dallas, if you’re an AAdvantage elite member, you can reserve a business-class seat on a few domestic routes for free!...

The Bletchley, a new spy-themed bar in London, requires that you crack a code before they’ll serve you a cocktail. Named for Bletchley Park, the top-secret site where Alan Turing and his fellow codebreakers tinkered with the Enigma machine during World War II, guests of The Bletchley are handed an army jacket upon entry, given a briefing and seated at a table with their very own Enigma machine....

Just this week, there was a close call in Canada with a possible drone, which resulted in two minor injuries to flight attendants when the pilots had to maneuver the aircraft in order to avoid the object. But, when used with caution, they can be fun to use — and Disney’s displaying just that by offering spectators a holiday-themed choreographed light show....

Most travelers might assume that the most important passengers on each flight, to an airline, are those sitting in the front cabin. The office of the Inspector General for the US Department of Homeland Security said this week it will review the controversial “Quiet Skies” surveillance program.The program, which is run by the Transportation Security Administration and was uncovered by the Boston Globe two weeks ago, has federal air marshals follow passengers the TSA deems suspicious through US airports and onto flights.The DHS Inspector General, John Kelly, said in a letter sent to US Representative Michael E....

London City Airport (LCY) remains closed on Monday, with all flights canceled, following the discovery of a World War II bomb nearby the airport in the River Thames. Airport officials have confirmed that the airport will remain closed all day while the unexploded bomb is removed.The closure is expected to affect up to 16,000 passengers on a total of 261 arrival and departures that were scheduled to operate through LCY on Monday....

Royal Caribbean is doing its part to help evacuate the island of St. Maarten after the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma. In an itinerary update, the cruise company announced that it plans to mobilize its ships and supplies in order to help those in the Caribbean and Florida who are still struggling after Irma wreaked havoc last week.The Majesty of the Seas, an 830-foot, 73,941-ton cruise ship, stopped in St. Thomas on a humanitarian call on Tuesday....

Everything is bigger in Texas, including the hotel construction boom that’s sweeping the nation. According to The New York Times, the Lone Star State’s three major metro areas — Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Houston and Austin — have the most projected hotel openings in the country for 2017 after New York and Los Angeles.Why the sudden explosion? It’s a perfect storm of various factors, including population surge, tax credits, tourist popularity (we’re looking at you, Austin), cheap land and a favorable business climate that prioritizes construction over environmental and zoning regulations (case in point: Houston’s unstoppable sprawl)....

Passengers aren’t the only vulnerable people when it comes to sexual harassment in the air. The news that a survey found that 70% of flight attendants have been sexually harassed in the course of their duties came as no surprise to the airline employees of both genders TPG spoke to, with many of them sharing disturbing accounts of being harassed both by passengers and other crew members. In a couple cases, both male and female passengers told us how they were the victims of unwanted advances by flight attendants on flights....

If you are a penny-pinching traveler, you now have a new budget option to fly in the US.Swoop, the new ultra-low-cost carrier from Canada, announced its first destinations in the American market on Thursday. The airline is planning seven new routes in the US to five different airports beginning this fall.As of October 11, Swoop will serve Las Vegas (LAS), and by the end of October, it will operate routes from Canada to Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Orlando (MCO), Phoenix-Mesa (AZA) and Tampa (TPA)....

I’m going to say something unintentionally divisive…children, even little babies, are real people that should be equally welcomed in many, if not most, places that other older people are allowed. They aren’t pets. They aren’t some alien species. They aren’t monsters. They aren’t second class citizens to be locked away until they can do Algebra and discuss literature. They are full fledged people who just happen to be smaller and younger than most adults....

US Airways is known for bare-bones service - whether that’s in coach or business/first class. In fact, growing up outside of Philadelphia and going to college in Pittsburgh, I’ve had my fair share of US Airways experiences - most of which had to do with brusque employees and paltry offerings, but also included the period when they started charging for just about everything, including coffee and water (though that blew up in their face and they’ve since walked back from that decision)....
