I’ve always wanted to visit Iceland, but have never been interested in flying Iceland Air or Iceland Express- primarily because you don’t (currently) earn miles on those carriers- and what’s the point of flying coach if you can’t earn miles?Recently Iceland Air announced a partnership with Alaska Airlines, with unknown mileage earning/burning capabilities. This was good to hear- finally a way to use miles to go to Alaska, although I have no Alaska, they are a transfer partner of Starwood Preferred Guest....

Two months after Embraer’s first E190E2 went into service with Widerøe, the aircraft manufacturer appears to be rolling out a new special livery on the airplane that’s been dubbed the ‘Profit Hunter’.An Embraer communications employee tweeted a picture of the new paint job for the aircraft, which displays what appears to be a great white shark on the nose.The E190-E2 is one of the newest passenger jets in the world and was officially launched at the Paris Air Show five years ago....

A couple of weeks ago, we found out that American Airlines flight attendants will soon be able to give passengers in-flight compensation. On Wednesday, three Americans who had been detained in North Korea were released. President Trump announced on Twitter that the three and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are en route back to the US from North Korea, and are expected to land at Andrews Air Force Base at 2:00am, where he will greet them.The four, along with a press pool, are en route from North Korea to Andrews (ADW), having completed the first leg of their journey just after 9:30am ET....

Boeing has the 737 MAX 10 (as of yesterday), and Airbus has the A321neo. Both next-generation aircraft are designed for medium-haul travel, and, with some modifications, can operate select long(ish)-haul flights, including East Coast to parts of Western Europe.That’s where JetBlue comes in — the airline currently operates a fleet of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, but executives are considering adding a long-range version of the A321neo, which would then be used to operate flights to Europe....

Air France-KLM shares fell by 4% Friday, just one day after the flag carrier of France announced the appointment of new CEO Benjamin Smith. Economists are attributing the stock drop to the airline’s employee unions which responded with open hostility over the decision to appoint Smith, a Canadian, who would be the first non-French person to lead the airline. (It now includes Dutch flag carrier KLM.)“Driving the share price is essentially the discontent of the unions,” said Meriem Mokdad, fund manager at Paris-based Roche-Brune Asset Management....

New York Giants player AJ Francis is accusing the Transportation Security Administration of spilling his mother’s cremated remains inside his checked luggage.On Monday, the NFL player tweeted a photo of the interior of his suitcase, which showed a slip indicating the TSA had searched his checked bag, along with what appeared to be his mother’s ashes scattered over his clothing.Francis called out the agency in the tweet, saying in part that next time TSA officers “feel the need to go thru my mother’s ashes for no reason, make sure you close it back so her remains aren’t spilled on all my clothes....

Passengers on Mesa Airlines flight 6122, operating as United Express from DC’s Reagan Airport (DCA) to Houston’s George Bush International Airport (IAH), had to evacuate the plane on the taxiway Sunday afternoon after smoke was detected in the cabin.A transportation reporter for the Washington Post posted the following statement from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority on Twitter:Passengers and crew exited the 70-seat Embraer E-170 regional jet via emergency slide, “‘without incident and continued to the gate,” according to the Post....

Fees, fees, and more fees — the airline industry is full of them, and there seems to be a new one every month.These fees make up a large portion of many airline’s revenue.
