On Saturday, hundreds of passengers on Sun Country Airlines were stranded in Los Cabos, Mexico (SJD) after their flight to Minneapolis (MSP) was canceled due to snow and icy conditions. 250 passengers had to find their own way home after the airline told them they had no planes to get them out of Mexico after seasonal service to the region ended. The Minneapolis-based airline received widespread backlash, including from Minnesota’s two US Senators who scolded the airline for not doing more to help its passengers return home....

A Thai Airways passenger was charged an extra fee at the airline’s check-in counter for having a last name that was too long to fit in the online booking platform.The unidentified passenger was charged a change fee when the name on his boarding pass did not match the name on his passport. The flyer told the Bangkok Post on Saturday it was because Thai’s internet booking platform only allotted 25 characters for a passenger’s last name, and his was much longer....

The top four most populous states in the US have racked up the most credit card debt, a new report released Tuesday from the New York state comptroller says.California has the largest amount of credit card debt. Consumers in the Golden State were collectively more than $106.8 billion in credit card debt by the end of 2017, according to the numbers from Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, whose office used statistics calculated in February by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York....

It was a fantastic opportunity to fly the Queen of the Skies on a route normally operated by a 737, and while I was optimistic after hearing that the airline could keep its superjumbo flying through 2022, that turned out to be a bit too good to be true....

Four European airlines — Ryanair, EasyJet, Wizz Air and IAG (parent company of British Airways and Iberia, among others) — are not happy with French air traffic controllers. The four carriers are complaining to the European Union that the ATC staffers’ constant strikes are restricting movement within the whole of the EU.French ATC workers have declared a series of strikes throughout 2018 to protest the government’s economic reforms.The four airlines argue that the French ATC strikes break EU law in that by not enabling flights over the country during the demonstrations, passengers flying between other member states are denied their freedom of travel rights....

Update: American has confirmed that the flight will launch on September 7, with bookings available beginning March 20.AA is finally joining Oneworld partner Cathay Pacific with a nonstop flight between Los Angeles (LAX) and Hong Kong (HKG) — the flight on this route will be operated by AA’s three-cabin 777-300ER, with 8 seats in first class, 52 seats in business, 30 seats in Main Cabin Extra and 220 seats in a (fairly tight) 3-4-3 economy configuration....

At two months old Baby S recently completed her first flights (and international ones at that), and naturally she wanted to write her first trip report about the experience. Cuban state-run media reports that a Boeing 737 crashed shortly after takeoff at Havana Jose Marti Airport (HAV) Friday afternoon.There were at least 104 souls on board the aircraft. According to news site, CubaDebate, the aircraft is a Boeing 737-200 owned by Mexican airline Global Air operated for Cuba’s national airline Cubana de Aviación. Reports in the Italian press initially indicated the airplane was a 737-400 operated by Italian airline Blue Panorama....

Registration is now open and tickets are on sale for the 2014 Chicago Seminars in good old Elk Grove, Illinois, right near Chicago O’Hare. This year, the event will take place Friday-Sunday, October 17-19, again at the Holiday Inn Elk Grove Village near O’Hare. You can register here for $95 for the weekend, which includes the cost of attending, but not your accommodations or dinner. As of this posting, there are 443 tickets left, and they cost $95 each....

Delta announced Thursday that it will be ending its service to Hong Kong (HKG) on October 4. The airline currently operates just one route to Hong Kong, with six weekly flights from Seattle (SEA) it has been operating since 2014.“Delta will continue to serve Hong Kong from Seattle via Seoul-ICN, with its joint venture partner Korean Air,” the airline said in a press release.In its place, Delta is resuming non-stop service between Seattle and Osaka-Kansai (KIX), Japan, starting sometime in 2019....

A German court has ruled that Kuwait Airways can refuse to transport Israeli passengers. The Frankfurt court said that the country’s flagship carrier isn’t required to carry Israeli citizens — given that the country of Kuwait’s laws don’t recognize the state of Israel as a country, the court concluded that it’s not discrimination on the base of race, ethnicity or religion, but rather citizenship.In August 2016, an Israeli citizen, Adam M....

A few years ago lots of us were pretty excited that Hyatt was going to have a large resort hotel in the Bahamas as part of the massive Baha Mar resort complex. For a while you could even book rooms for just 15,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points per night! However, lots of problems with the larger complex occurred before the doors ever opened including bankruptcy and more. The opening date was pushed back, and then stalled progress altogether in about 2015....

Most hotel programs give you the option to earn airline miles instead of hotel points, however I never really take them up on that offer since I usually have way too many airline miles and not enough hotel points. Having miles is great, but people always underestimate the costs of hotels and especially if you are traveling to places where the exchange rate works against you, like Europe, hotel points can be extremely valuable....

Good news for JetBlue and American flyers- you can now bank points to either program when flying on select routes. Miles earned are not elite qualifying and there is no 500 mile minimum, however its a good start. Also- you cannot currently redeem AA miles for JetBlue flights, but I could see that changing in the future as the airlines continue to strengthen their partnership.How it worksIf you fly JetBlue:And bank to AA, you earn miles based on the actual miles flown (no 500 mile minimum)....

That would be so much better to me than having extra accounts with small balances here and there to worry about so the miles don’t expire and go to waste....

While many people understandably try to minimize the time they spend at an airport, long connections (especially on international flights) are inevitable at some point in your journey. Many airports have gone above and beyond to make the passenger experience more enjoyable, but there’s only one airport I can think of that has taken this to the next level and worked to attract customers who aren’t even flying to come visit the airport (just don’t try and visit a lounge if you aren’t flying!...
