The Norwegian Air expansion continues — this time, from the US to a new city in Europe. The low-cost carrier announced today that it’s set to launch service from Newark (EWR), Los Angeles (LAX) and Oakland (OAK) to Rome (FCO). The three new routes are set to begin later this year (or into 2018 in the case of OAK).The new Rome routes will be serviced by Norwegian’s 787 Dreamliner, which features an economy class and a Premium class....

San Francisco’s star-studded restaurant scene got a little brighter yesterday as no restaurant lost its two-star or three-star status in the 2017 Michelin Guide for San Francisco Bay Area & Wine Country, while one new restaurant was added to each category.Quince made the leap from two stars to three, joining last year’s holdovers — Benu, The French Laundry, Manresa, The Restaurant at Meadowood and Saison — for a total of six (which is as many as New York)....

Update: Just a couple of hours after this leak emerged, American Airlines and Boeing have formally announced AA’s order of 47 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.American Airlines has been on a fleet-renewal spree over the past few years, and it may be about to add a giant new order to it.Since 2014, the world’s largest airline has taken delivery of almost 400 new aircraft, while retiring some of its oldest. This fleet renewal program has brought AA’s average aircraft age down to a youthful 10....

Our recent anniversary trip to Hawaii happened to line up perfectly with the opening of the much anticipated Andaz Maui at Wailea. This hotel is a part of the Hyatt family of hotels, which means we were able to avoid the $400 - $500 per night room expense, and instead use points for our stay. Redeeming your miles on British Airways long-haul flights are about to get a tad more expensive. Starting this Tuesday, February 8, you’ll be dinged for up to $55 in “fuel surcharges.” This definitely hurts, because BA redemptions have some of the highest fees on award tickets already. I just booked clients from Toronto to Nairobi in First class and fees came to a shocking $1,250 per ticket.I find these “fuel surcharges” to be obnoxious and misleading....

One of the beautiful elements of airline alliances and partnerships is the ability to fly on one airline and have the credits for that flight attributed to a different airline. For example, if you fly on Hawaiian Airlines, you can credit the miles earned from that flight to JetBlue. Or, if you fly Air Dolomiti — a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa — you can credit the miles earned to United’s MileagePlus program....

A planned addition for international arrivals at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) will now cost nearly $1 billion, or more than three times the original estimate, according to a review panel that presented its findings Tuesday.In addition, the new International Arrivals Facility will open eight months late, in August 2020.The 450,000-square-foot structure would connect the airport’s South Satellite to Concourse A via a 900-foot walkway, increase the number of gates capable of handling wide-body planes on international flights from 12 to 20, add three luggage carousels for a total of seven, and more than double the number of passport booths and kiosks from 30 to 80....

It seems like more palace intrigue is surfacing from Air France-KLM headquarters.After months of employee strikes over pay, Jean-Marc Janaillac, the airline group’s chairman and CEO, resigned in early May. Now, as Air France begins floating names to replace him, some of the airline’s partners are opposing names on the list — particularly Philippe Capron, who is currently chief financial officer of French water utility company Veolia.According to Reuters, Capron is one of the favorites to become Air France-KLM’s new CEO....
