In the US, there’s only been one airline hijacking incident that has yet to be solved — the case of D.B. Cooper. Now, 46 years after the hijacking over Washington State, a team of investigators has uncovered a letter sent to several West Coast newspapers following the 1971 incident. Air Niugini Flight 73 crashed into a lagoon off the coast of Chuuk International Airport (TKK), Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean Friday. All 35 passengers and 12 crew members were safely rescued, with no serious injuries reported.The Air Niugini Boeing 737-800 aircraft “landed short of the runway,” plunging into the water beside the airport on Weno, the main island of Chuuk state in Micronesia. Independent airline safety and crash data website JACDEC reported that the flight had been uneventful until the time of final descent, when weather conditions rapidly deteriorated amid sudden heavy rain....

The biggest budget carrier in Europe, Ryanair, faced the worst one-day strike in its 30-year history on Friday. In October I wrote about the ability to use your Delta miles or systemwide upgrades to upgrade Air France Premium Economy to Business class. This is a great value because Air France Premium Economy can be purchased for as low as $1,200 roundtrip from the US (offpeak) and around $2,000 (peak). While they aren’t particularly exciting, I’d like to see them (and other airlines) expand this program to include international destinations. Perhaps the most valuable aspect of these awards is that they are waiving the $75 last minute ticketing fee....

Update 3/19/18 at 4:30pm: The Associated Press has reported that a Bermuda police spokesman says authorities have found a body amid the search for Mark Dombroski.Authorities in Bermuda are looking for a US college student who went missing on the island early on Sunday morning following a rugby tournament.The student, Mark Dombroski, is a freshman at Philadelphia’s St. Joseph University and was on a weekend trip to Bermuda with the school’s rugby team for a tournament....
