I generally don’t advocate buying miles outright, but when there are big bonuses it can make sense for certain people.From now until March 31, 2011, Delta is offering a 50% bonus on purchased and gifted miles, up to 60,000 total (90,000 with bonus).60,000 miles costs roughly $1,700 and you’d receive 90,000 miles. 100,000 miles can get you business class to Europe/South America, so if you were going to pay several thousand for a revenue ticket, this could make sense (especially if you have at least 10,000 SkyMiles in your account)....

For my second day on the Costa Brava, I decided to go to Cadaques on the recommendation of one of my best friends and fellow world traveler. He raved about a little restaurant called Casa Anita and recommended the Rocamar Hotel, so I decided to follow his lead and I’m thankful I did.It took about an hour and 45 minutes from Aigua Blava to Cadaques. I’m always amazed at the quality of feedback that I see on frequent flyer bulletin boards and blogs. In what would have clearly seemed like an April Fools’ joke had the news been delivered on April 1, one Airbus Paris Air Show announcement at first seemed very real — there was even a modified A380 to match, complete with new winglets and a fresh paint job. But the A380plus is really just a regular A380, plus some paint and two mocked-up winglets. We were almost fooled.Seeing the charade to completion, I made my way onboard the “A380plus,” which, as I’m now keenly aware, is simply a test aircraft shell....

Last week, Southwest Airlines grounded dozens aircraft due to issues with their weight records.The Chicago Business Journal obtained an internal memo that was distributed to Southwest employees regarding the disruption:“Today (Wednesday) we discovered the weights being sent to our Dispatch Operation did not match our other weight records for a number of aircraft in the fleet. As a result, and of an abundance of caution, we have stopped flying those aircraft to recalculate the weights of the aircraft in question and reset the program....

United Airlines is the only US airline to have ordered the newest variant of Boeing’s Dreamliner, the 787-10. The carrier has been fairly tight-lipped about its plans for its 14 -10s that it has on order — including what they’ll look like on the inside and where exactly they’ll fly. FlightGlobal, however, is reporting both that the aircraft will feature three cabins and that it could potentially use them out of Newark (EWR) for European operations....
