Beachgoers won’t be the only ones soaking up the sun in Honolulu.Hawaii’s Department of Transportation said Tuesday that Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) will be harnessing the power of the sun with the installation of 4,260 solar panels.The integration of solar power at the airport is part of Hawaii’s goal of generating 100% clean energy by 2045. Officials hope the solar power absorbed by the panels will cut the airport’s electricity bill in half....

Disasters bring out the best and worst in individuals and businesses, and I’m sure the Texas coast’s tussle with Hurricane Harvey this weekend will be no exception. Many, like us, have had to cancel planned travel due to the storm, so some hotels that thought they would be playing host to a crop of late summer travelers instead probably saw some of those leisure travelers cancel their plans as the storm drew near....

Boeing’s stock is sliding yet again due to fears of a trade war, this time because China hit the US with new tariffs that in part target the American aircraft manufacturing industry.The US airplane manufacturer’s shares fell by more than 4% as trading opened on Wednesday, and are down about 2% at 2pm New York time, following the announcement that China was slapping $50 billion worth of tariffs on 106 US goods, including “aircraft and other aircraft with an empty weight of more than 15,000 kg but not exceeding 45,000 kg [about 16....

JetBlue announced yesterday that it’s ramping up efforts to bring more eco-friendly jet fuel to the skies — and at the same time, the airline potentially wants to expand its route network to Europe and to more destinations in South America. The New York-based carrier announced a 10-year purchase agreement with SG Preston to buy renewable jet fuel that’s made from bio-based feedstocks, such as plant matter, that don’t compete with food production....

Beyond the three upcoming flights, I am not yet sure if I will have any additional ones before December 31. Is it more advantageous to cross over the 75,000 MQMs, reaching Platinum Medallion Status, or is it better to stay under the 75,000 mark, which would then result in 24,000+ MQMs rolling over in my account on January 1, 2012?...

Turkish Airlines is rolling out brand new uniforms for its cabin crew, timed to debut at the same time as the opening of its newly built home-base Istanbul New Airport in October.For the new outfits that come in a “deep red and anthracite grey palette,” the national flag carrier teamed up with designer Ettore Bilotta, who also previously designed a similar look for Alitalia’s flight attendants. The new designs are meant to reflect “classic elements of Turkish design and culture,” and they “incorporate traditional patterns found in artisanal glassware, ceramics and calligraphy with contemporary textures and details....

Fourteen women who claim they were sexually assaulted or harassed by their Uber drivers have sent a letter to the ride-sharing company’s board of directors asking to have their class-action lawsuit heard in court, instead of the forced closed-door arbitration as laid out in the app’s terms and conditions.In the letter, the women share their stories of being assaulted by drivers while riding in Ubers in Miami, Los Angeles, Pasadena, San Jose and Brooklyn from October 2016 to March 2018....

Consumers in the United Kingdom scored a big victory this week as the British government has announced that it will be barring companies from charging customers extra fees while using credit cards and other payment services.The policy, announced by the UK’s finance ministry on Wednesday, says that as of January 2018, businesses will no longer be able to charge an extra fee at check out for using a debit or credit card....

Star Alliance partner Air China is launching its new flight between Houston and Panama today, April 5, allowing US passengers to fly to the Central American nation and back on a Chinese airline.
