On a recent Delta flight from London (LHR) to Salt Lake City (SLC), a passenger was arrested after she reportedly ran up and down the aisle of the plane, threw coffee on other passengers, knocked over a beverage cart and then jumped on the back of and assaulted a man, placing “her hands on his head, neck and jawline,” according to the complaint filed by the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office....

When I first heard the reports of gay concentration camps in Chechnya, I was in denial. Surely this couldn’t be happening — not in 2017. Sadly, as report after report came out in media outlets like The New York Times and the Human Rights Watch, it turned out to be a sad and terrifying reality. The last few months have been somewhat turbulent for the previously soaring Dubai-based Emirates. In November the airline announced a 75% drop in net profit for the first half of its fiscal year, and the following month reports emerged that the carrier was reviewing the size and responsibilities of its workforce. Emirates has also made attempts to increase its revenue — it implemented fees for optional advanced seat selection in economy, and access to the Business and First Class Lounges in Dubai can now be purchased for $100-$200 by passengers in any cabin....

Doug Parker and the rest of the airline industry have gotten their way. On Saturday, bipartisan congressional legislation dropped a provision that would have allowed the Department of Transportation to decide if fees put in place by airlines were “reasonable and proportional.“The legislation, which was announced at 2:52am Saturday, protects US airlines in collecting last year’s $7.5 billion in baggage, seat assignment and flight change fees, Reuters reports.
