Uber has reached an unofficial agreement to sell off its operations in Southeast Asia to its top competitor in the region, ride-hailing company Grab.The exact details of the agreement are still being negotiated, but under the current terms, insiders say Uber would sell its operations in the region for a 30% stake in Grab, The Wall Street Journal reports. The deal would mean the end of a costly effort by Uber to compete with Grab and an Indonesian-based motorcycle ride-hailing company, Go-Jek....

United Airlines launched a pilot program in January of this year that tells passengers exactly why their flight is running behind schedule — down to crew members who missed their connections or the exact mechanical issue.TPG noticed the change when one of our editors was flying out of Houston (IAH), she got an alert in her United app saying that crews were working to fix the Boeing 737-700’s fuel panel. “We found you a new plane as our maintenance team needed additional time to a fuel panel on your original plane,” the maintenance alert read....

Baggage handlers, security guards and wheelchair attendants contracted by Aviation Safeguards — which provides their services to Delta, British Airways and United at both JFK and LGA — have called this strike in order to press their employer for benefits and a $15 hourly wage....

Southwest recently launched a targeted offer where Rapid Rewards members can earn triple points on flights between now and November 20, 2014. You must register by November 20 and then book and fly by that day as well.The terms are clear that the offer is targeted to recipients of the email that Southwest sent out, but members of Team TPG were able to register for the promotion even though they had not received the email and got the following screen....

It looks like the current FAA deauthorization will last until after Labor Day, so if you purchased a ticket for US travel before July 22 for travel on or after July 22, 2011, you may be entitled for a refund. It’s not clear how the refund will work, so I’d recommend waiting while the details are figured out, but the refunds may be up to 10% of the total ticket price, so stay tuned....

Lifemiles is Colombian-based airline Avianca’s mileage program. It’s really made itself known by being the wholesaler of cheap Star Alliance miles and award tickets. And now it’s back with another offer: Now through May 30, buy miles with up to a 135% bonus. If you were targeted for the full 135% bonus, the bonus drops the price down to 1.47 cents per mile.Even if you weren’t targeted for the 135% bonus, the terms and conditions of the offer seem to indicate that all members can get a 125% bonus....

Today, I want to share a story from the TPG Lounge submitted by TPG reader Cathy, who ran into an issue with a ticket from the US to Saipan. Here’s what she had to say:My husband was scheduled to conduct training in Saipan, a U.S. territory that is part of the Northern Mariana Islands. We have traveled there twice before from the U.S. via Tokyo on Delta, but Delta discontinued flights from Tokyo to Saipan in May of this year, so we had to find another option....

I recently had to abandon a ticket I had purchased on United as I ended up having a date conflict that made the trip impossible. If you book enough trips, this is bound to happen. If I had booked on United miles my United Platinum status would have saved me from cancellation penalties, but even status can’t save you from the change fees associated with basic revenue tickets. United actually has a bit of a “unique” process for making changes to your purchased tickets, so I thought I would offer up my experience in case you encounter this in the future....

The cabin electronics ban, which was lifted from Abu Dhabi (AUH) on Sunday, is also expected to be removed for flights to the US from Istanbul, Turkey (IST), as of this Wednesday, July 5, according to a tweet sent by Bilal Eksi, CEO of Turkish Airlines.The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) originally instituted the ban in March for flights to the US from 10 cities in eight countries over concerns about explosives being potentially hidden in small electronics such as laptop computers....
