Lately I’ve been really impressed with United’s Twitter Deals a.k.a Twares. This week, they’ve been even more impressive as United celebrated their 100,000th Twitter follower- not bad (though still sorely lagging JetBlue’s 1.5 million + followers). To celebrate the big 100k, they announced $100/$200 fares in many popular markets:Chicago to/from: Jacksonville, FL $100Tampa, FL $100Denver to/from:Phoenix, AZ $100San Francisco to/from: Phoenix, AZ $100Washington Dulles to/from: Jacksonville, FL $100New Orleans, LA $100Pensacola, FL $100Phoenix, AZ $200Tampa, FL $100So how do you get in on these deals? They announce them via Twitter, usually highlighting a certain destination or theme, and a promotion code is given in the tweet which you enter on united.com to book the tickets at the discounted price. They don’t last long so the best thing is to monitor United on twitter.com/@unitedairlines. You can set up your Twitter feed to receive texts whenever @unitedairlines tweets. You can also periodically check their Special Deals portion of your website, though thats a much more random approach. And yes, these fares are indeed eligible for mileage accrual and elite upgrades. There is no set time tha Twares are announced, but its usually around 11:30am or 2:30pm and they sell out within two hours. For example, below is a list of the last 5 Twares, their destinations, time they were announced and time they expired:Sign up for our daily newsletterEmail addressSign upI would like to subscribe to The Points Guy newsletters and special email promotions.
