Did you take advantage of that incredible JetBlue point-match offer back in June? If so, check your email, because you might have received a special offer.Yesterday, Virgin America sent out a batch of emails apparently targeting Elevate members who took advantage of this JetBlue point-matching offer. Specifically, Virgin America’s trigger seems to be travelers who transferred points from SPG to Virgin America during JetBlue’s promotion period — with a resulting total of at least 50,001 Virgin America Elevate points.Virgin America’s email makes no direct mention of JetBlue but dances all around the name itself — both with the email subject (“Nice move, Blue”) and the email content (“You blue the points off that one.”) Anyone who took advantage of the JetBlue promotion would probably get these references, but it’s funny to think about any other Virgin America travelers who just happened to transfer Starpoints during the JetBlue promotion time; they’re probably pretty happy with the discount code, but may be quite confused by the “blue” references.The OfferVirgin America’s “blue” references hints that the JetBlue match was the prompt for the targeted offer.Virgin America is offering the targeted travelers a one-time 25% off promo code. The savings is only valid on cash fares, meaning — unfortunately — you can’t use this code to get 25% points off an award booking, using all of those new Virgin America points you now have.Here’s the email Virgin America sent to one of our TPG team members:Hi [traveler],Nice match, my friend. Someone was using their noggin. As a little thank you for transferring your points to Elevate, we’re offering 25% off fares fares [sic] when you book by August 29 and fly through October 15, 2016. However, the offer pales in comparison to the incredible deal travelers just got with JetBlue. A 25% savings coupon is better than nothing, but the offer is very restrictive.
