Wildfires In Northern California Are Causing Evacuations And Smoke Advisories

See privacy policy.Wildfires are spreading across Northern California, prompting mandatory evacuations of nearby residents and causing air quality problems across the Bay Area.California officials ordered mandatory evacuations on Sunday across Yolo County, north of Sacramento. So far, the wildfire, which started burning Saturday, has spanned 44,500 acres and continues to grow, crossing the containment lines set by firefighters and threatening dozens of structures, according to Cal Fire.Officials say the blaze is only 3% contained. As of Monday, 119 fire engines and 1,226 fire personnel were combating the fire’s spread.The wildfire is burning so intensely that plumes of smoke are visible in San Francisco, 75 miles south of Yolo County, causing a smoke advisory to go into effect for the Bay Area on Sunday. So far, no alerts from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) have been issued due to limited visibility caused by the smoke.Smoke is also mixing with San Francisco’s signature fog to turn the sky bright yellow and orange.Air quality in Napa, Sonoma and San Mateo counties is also being adversely affected by gusts of smoke from the wildfire, the National Weather Service said.Officials have not yet specified how long the mandatory evacuation orders will remain in place.
